🇮🇪 Gaeilge practice guide

Combine Comhrá practice with poetry reading and Sraith Pictiúr description.

Start practising Gaeilge

Choose your practice route

Select Gnáthleibhéal (OL) or Ardleibhéal (HL) for conversation practice. Use Study Mode to explore useful language, then return to Exam Mode to answer independently. The three tabs support different tasks; the mock is a conversation exercise.

Comhrá: make answers personal

Choose a topic, listen if your device supports an Irish voice and answer in Irish. Add a relevant reason or detail. Select Ceartaigh to check your submitted language. Practise an improved version aloud, particularly verb forms when talking about past events or future plans.

FilĂocht: read and rehearse

Open FilĂocht, choose the year selector and then a poem. Follow the displayed text while using the audio where available. Read a short section aloud, checking pronunciation and phrasing against the model. The page currently offers 2026 and 2027 selectors: confirm the appropriate prescribed material with your teacher. This tab is a reading and listening resource, not an AI assessment of your spoken poetry.

Sraith PictiĂşr: bring your own pictures

Open Sraith PictiĂşr and select a sequence. Use the matching pictures from your own exam papers. Tell the story aloud, then type or dictate your description and select Ceartaigh. Review verbs and how you link events. The text feedback does not assess your actual voice or replace practising the interaction with a partner.

Mock and Irish audio

Start Mock Exam provides five Comhrá questions: three topics, a past prompt and a future prompt. It does not include poetry or Sraith Pictiúr. Irish text-to-speech depends on the voices available on your device and may be unavailable or inaccurate. Use the supplied poem recordings where available and practise with your teacher’s pronunciation model.

Example: develop a personal detail

Is maith liom ceol mar cuireann sé ar mo shuaimhneas mé. Éistim le ceol gach lá. This gives a preference, a reason and a habit. Change the details to match your own life, then practise saying it naturally.

Speak, dictate and listen

Add the Gaeilge keyboard in your device settings. Tap the answer box and use the keyboard microphone to dictate, or type your answer. Set dictation to the language you are speaking and check that the transcript matches your words before submitting. Irish audio availability is explained above. The “listen to my answer” control reads the submitted text using a synthetic voice; it does not replay a recording of you.

Use feedback to improve your next attempt

The AI reviews your submitted text. It cannot reliably assess your pronunciation, pace or live interaction from a transcript. Treat scores as practice estimates. Check suggestions that seem doubtful with your teacher. Choose one useful correction and one phrase, then answer again aloud in your own words.

A 15-minute practice routine

  1. 3 minutes: choose one topic and prepare a few useful words or a structure in Study Mode.
  2. 5 minutes: answer aloud, submit your response and read the feedback.
  3. 4 minutes: repeat the answer without reading, then practise one more question or task.
  4. 3 minutes: note one improvement and one target for next time.
Use a separate session for a mock. Try the same topic on another day to see whether you can answer more independently.

Before your next session

  • I can understand the question and answer it directly.
  • I can add a relevant reason or example.
  • I have practised one correction aloud.
  • I know which task or topic to practise next.
